WHAT IS A DOULA?
Historically speaking, the term "doula" loosely translates to "woman servant". In a lot of ways, that is true. To be a doula is to have a desire to serve. In this era, birth workers or birth doulas are front-line changemakers and space-holders seeking to make a positive impact on local and larger-scale birth outcomes through physical, mental, and emotional support and advocacy.
A doula is more than just a labor coach. A doula is a shoulder to cry or lean on, a listening ear in the middle of the night, a resource of information and intuition, an advocate for your wellbeing and happiness, a calm voice of reason, a hand to hold, a hand to squeeze, and a committed friend. A doula does not replace your partner or loved ones or their role in the birthing experience. A doula enriches the birthing experience by making sure that you are supported and cared for, your autonomy is protected, and you feel empowered to embark on this, the most intimate and pivotal of journeys.

When it comes to doulas, it takes all kinds of kinds! There are not just birth doulas. There are doulas that support postpartum, fertility, conception, adoption, abortion, loss, stillbirth, transition processes, end of life, death, and more. Stay tuned to hear about what services Dia The Doula will be offering in addition to birth support in the future!

my Mission
i am on a mission to bring Holistic and Human-centered care to the birthing individuals of my community and to play my part in changing Arkansas' maternal mortality and birth outcome rates. I strongly believe that better births are possible if birthing individuals are treated and loved well, their voices heard and respected, their choices held and advocated for, and their whole wellbeing supported.
